    Love Culture # 14 Honesty

“Honesty is more than not lying. It is truth telling, truth speaking, truth living, and truth loving.”  James E Faust

Honesty is not so much of what we do when everyone is watching but rather what we do when nobody is watching. Arthur C Clarke said; “The best measure of a man's honesty isn't his income tax return. It's the zero adjust on his bathroom scale.” Funny as it sounds, we are more prone to be dishonest when we think it will not hurt anyone or rather in the name of self preservation.

It is easy to be honest when you know that the repercussion are serious than when you think it could go unnoticed. This is where the idea and analogy of white lies comes from. Being honest means choosing not to lie, steal, cheat, or deceive in any way. When you are honest, you build strength of character that will allow you to be of great service to others.

Honesty is one of the great virtues. Living an honest life often takes effort. Honesty is not only demonstrated by our words, honesty is all so exemplified in our thoughts and actions. Not only must we not lie to others with our words, but we also must be honest in our actions by doing what we say we are going to do.

With the many demands on our time and the desire to please others it is easy to say yes when we should have said no. To agree to things, we do not truly agree with. Making sure that our words, actions and thoughts are aligned is not as simple as it may at first seem.

If we’re honest in all that we do and say, it means we are genuine, real and true. Living your life honestly means that you’ve decided to live openly and to show your true self to others and that you can be relied upon to be genuine.

One of the key elements in any relationship, be it a personal or professional one, is the ability to trust and be trusted. Without trust, we have no credibility which is at the core of being able to influence people and provide strong leadership. Without honesty, there is no foundation upon which to build a personal relationship with others.

As you live a life of honesty and truth you will find life becomes simpler and less complex. The benefits of this lifestyle include closer friendships with higher quality friends, improved communication, and an improved reputation as someone who is trustworthy consistently acting with honor and integrity. You will gain the respect of others and you will become more confident in yourself as you live a more authentic life.
