    Have A Written Plan

Success is something that is inherently built in to us from the time we are born until we become adults and begin to doubt ourselves. We are each born with an innate desire to stand to, be different as well as have significance. As children, we carry big dreams for the future which unfortunately tend to diminish as we grow older. The education system often does more harm than good in nurturing these innate dreams and ambitions. So we grow up and suddenly want to be in charge and yet we fully can't figure out how to do that.

As an entrepreneur I know from first hand experience the excitement of starting a new organisation and the thrill of doing something significant that has the potential to change my life, the lives of others and the community. When the idea is finally birthed, there is a rush of positive energy and enthusiasm that engulfs you. It brings you to a place where all things are possible in-spite of what people think or have to say about your idea.

Unfortunately, this energy soon wears off as a result of the daily routines and never ending tasks that one has to bear as they grow their enterprise. If you are easily bored by routine like me, soon what was a pleasure becomes another chore that has to be taken care of before the day ends. Planning can bring back the sparks in your work by altering tasks and activities in a way that keeps you interested in what you are pursuing.

Having things laid out before your eyes on paper can put things in to perspective. If this is in a list format, then you can see whether or not you are taking on too much that can tire you out before you even reach your goals. Sometimes we dream bigger than reality. This isn’t a bad thing, but it is important to keep in mind what you are mentally capable of handling realistically.

Checking things off lists are sure signs that you are on the right track to what you want. Take these small wins, and make time to celebrate how far you’ve in making that small dream you had reality. By having a visual, tangible reminder will help you remember that what you are doing is important enough to be constantly referring back to. Seeing those write ups everyday will also keep you on the right track. It will help you steer away from distractions that can prevent you from reaching benchmarks, and other small successes.

It doesn’t hurt to be reminded of promises you’ve made to yourself. Writing things down and seeing them on a daily basis, will make them hard to forget. Since you wrote them down, it’s hard to ignore the fact that these were steps you set for yourself to succeed.

When you’re enthusiastic and proud of what you can do or create, you are better equipped to counter any impending obstacles. Because there was an initial excitement felt, you’ll be more inclined to do the things necessary to keep the feeling there. Others will notice your confidence. Its one thing to turn a passion in to work, but when you emanate a pride that is unique to you and your work, others might see this and offer you great opportunities.

It will make you feel that you are worth it. You may have failed at some things in your past, but once you find that one thing to start feeling proud of, then you’ll in turn have a better sense of whom you are and the direction you want your life to go in.

    1. Very much so Noeline, I think I realized the practicability of planning after I had too many dreams that did not have a bench mark or cut out plan on how to get there. Also creating timelines is a good way to walk towards achieving one's goals. While a timeline is limiting, it also pushes one to work around deadlines and get things off the planned list. Thank you for the write-up!
