    Love Culture #10 Humility

I could never have chosen a worse day than valentines to talk about humility. May be you are thinking for crying out loud, today is all about love and what has humility got to do with it?

Love is woven in the fabric of humility and one cant do without the other. Come to think about it, when we love we place the object of our love before our selves and emerge ourselves in the relentless pursuit of their happiness. What better way could define humility than that.

Many people I have interacted with would prefer to relate humility to leadership than to the aspect of love. The good book says, greater love knows none than this, that a man lay down his life for another. For indeed love is as strong as death. In loving others, we humbly submit to their needs and happiness. Humility is all about love and love is humble.

Humility is not hospitality, courtesy, or a kind and friendly demeanor. Humility has nothing to do with being meek, weak, or indecisive. Perhaps more surprising, it does not entail shunning publicity.

Humility is the act of being modest, reverential, even politely submissive. It is the opposite of aggression, arrogance, pride, and vanity. And on the surface, it appears to empty its holder of all power. Humility is often mistaken for low self-esteem.

In reality, humility isn’t thinking less of yourself. It’s thinking less about yourself. Genuine humility is a study in perceptiveness, self-awareness and kindness and makes people more candid, compassionate and charitable.

Humility offers complete freedom from the desire to impress, be right, or get ahead. Frustrations and losses have less impact on a humble ego and a humble person confidently receives opportunity to grow, improve, and reject society‘s labels. A humble life results in contentment, patience, forgiveness, and compassion.

Humility is one of mankind’s most widely loved personality traits. Social groups, whether they are religions or cultural, nearly all preach the necessity of humility. As we discuss about the love culture, it is inevitable that we talk about humility and the power therein to liberate us from inner turmoil unto great peace and inner rest.

As you celebrate love today, place the needs of others before your own not just for one day a year but for every day of each year.

    Happy valentines!!
